increase in the width of both front and rear tires, but since the front of the car steers, you should be able to fit wider tires on the rear than the front. I forgot about the understeer. I think if the front tires get too big and/or wide it adversely effects handling. As far as hydroplaning, I'm not sure if the differences in width contribute to that as much as tread pattern or even tire compound. My understanding is that all tread patterns are basically a function of wet road performance. The tire with the most traction in dry, ideal conditions (like a race track) is a slick tire with no tread. However, a slick tire will hydroplane the worst. So if a car's tread patten can effectively "squeegee" the water out from under the contact patch, it has the least chance of hydroplaning.
